Assessed patients during infusions, and adjusting treatment, liaising with the medical team as required.

View Health administers infusions for Cancer patients (chemotherapy/immunotherapy) in patients home. The role of Nurse Lead was created as View Health expanded services to SA, VIC, NSW and QLD. The initial responsibilities was to create processes and systems, including logistics (supplies/medication/waste management), ensure legislative state standards were met and employ the nursing teams. In the last 2 years the role developed into remotely managing the teams in VIC, NSW and QLD. Listed below are the areas of responsibilities:

  • Plan and facilitate nursing team meetings and communications within the nursing team
  • Develop and maintain systems for performance appraisals, peer reviews, performance management of nursing teams
  • Work with recruitment team to interview & assess potential new nursing team members
  • To clinically onboard, orientate and monitor probation period of employment.
  • Work with the nursing education team to identify, develop and facilitate staff education needs/programs
  • Working with the Lead of Clinical Delivery to plan and implement clinical audits that inform and improve clinical practice. To assist in managing clinical incidents and feedback to the teams
  • Develop, implement, maintain and evaluate nursing team operational systems e.g., admission and coordination systems, medication delivery, effective staff utilization

  • Transitioned the Day Unit from 8 beds to 30-beds
  • Developed Clinical Pathway for Administration of Chemotherapy and Time Out procedure. Presented this pathway (as a poster) at Cancer Nurses Society of Australia conference.
  • Developed education documents for new patients and their families
  • Clinical development of staff - the creation of Training Programmes to transition novice nursing staff to cancer nursing.
  • Administration of cytotoxic/immunotherapy medication and blood products via a variety of access devices (IV cannulation, PORT, Hickman catheter, PICC line and peritoneal catheter).
  • Management of patients with bleeding disorders including Haemophilia
  • Care of patient pre and post BMAT procedure
  • Education of patients, families, and caregivers in regard to diagnosis and prognosis, treatment options, disease process, and management of potential toxicities.
  • Care of patients and support for families during the palliative phase of treatment
  • Education and support of nursing staff including precepting new staff
