Hello there. My name is Robert Portelli, and my wife Elizabeth and I sold our successful business March 2022. After a long overseas break, I am feeling refreshed and keen to add value to any business or organisation needing a ready-to-go team player with a great deal of life experience and business acumen.

My skill set comes from a broad range of experience working for family, small business, corporates and my own business/organisation over the past 20+ years. I can confidently apply myself in any department, team or project. I can help grow and improve or re-structure any customer experience, help nurture relationships at any level and fine tune existing sales & marketing departments or programs. I can also support, train and work with fellow employees in improving results and performance in most departments.

My natural ability to relate and listen to people (of any age), helps me to easily connect. Appreciating their needs and what is important to any person, (customer, resident, client or fellow employee) allows me to then bring relevant and effective ideas and choices to the discussion.

I have a strong belief system in achieving goals and to making things work out to the betterment of all concerned. My personal and career track record highlights my keen ability to negotiate favourable outcomes.

With respect to Sales or business development, I pride myself on being a professional rapport builder with a high conversion of enquiry to order ratio. Selling is based on relationships. People buy or deal with people, NOT companies or organisations. Improving sales (or relationships) is usually not about necessarily changing an existing process. By adding new, experienced eyes, that see the obvious, can make a considerable positive impact to the way you have ‘always done things’.

  • All adverting and copy creation were part of my creative role.

Accomplishments

  • I was always in the top 10% of the academic achievers. I love words, intelligent discussion and appreciate numbers. What you don't know can and will hurt you. But I was and still am, most happy when being of service to others. Whether at my dad's fruit shop after school, serving customers and carrying their box of fruit to their car, or in any job, business or community based activity I have been involved in.
  • I developed and introduced a Meant2be Local Program, that allowed me to work with those who 'had' (local business owners and business organisations) and facilitated the sharing of that, with those who 'didn't have' (needy families and kids, sports clubs, schools, aged care facilities, the homeless, the poor.) This was set up to be an on-line web based concept working with software developers by Geoffrey Ramadan at UMD.
  • Meant2be Australia proudly manufactured 'in-house' sportswear for basketball, netball, hockey, cricket and football. At a time where a less expensive China option was preferred by customers and local manufacturing all but disappeared, we were strong in our local community simply because of our personal service and local manufacture.
  • At the same time, we ran and conducted One of a Kind Programs for children (and some adult groups) focusing on nurturing the best in ourselves and discovering the power of positive self talk. Drawing and painting classes were held to weave in story telling and the importance of manners and respect. I ran these classes myself with schools, Hume City council (indigenous groups) and local Sports Clubs.
  • As Secretary on the committee of the Trieste Social Club (Essendon), I was able to bring to fruition a limited mobility lift for the ageing Club members. Priced at $102, 600 the lift was needed to take ageing Club patron to the Grand Hall on the first floor. I was the key driver and believer. Believe it and achieve it. I knew it could be done, (after many previous committees had shelved the project as too hard, not the right time, people don;t have the moiney.) Wrong!! I structured a fund raising schedule, courted local council, State and Federal Government support funding and on March 9th, 2019, we proudly held a Gala Dinner to formally declare the new lift project on officially open. President at the time was Renato Raimondi who proudly attests to my/our unending resolve.
