  • designed and built the first phase of the VCB digital platform, incorporating E2E cloud (AWS) , pub-sub event mesh(Kafka) and green-field 'Devops' pipeline delivery

  • Co-led the mortgages programme, from strategy through to execution; NAB's most successful $50m+ programme in 2019
  • Aggressive cloud migration of on-prem systems to AWS and Azure (1000 workloads across to cloud providers.) ~$AUD 5m saving in IT OPEX.
  • Progressive implementation of a scaled agile execution model
  • Establishment of offshore digital engineering capability in Vietnam (50% reduction in FTE change costs); Team is now at 700 FTE

Execution

Tyme Digital South Africa: (2018): Co-delivery of South Africa's first digital bank for the under-banked consumer and SME population. Based out of Johannesburg, delivered a cloud hosted branch-less digital banking proposition, including supermarket and kiosk based distribution channels (https://www.tymebank.co.za/). Focus areas included channel platforms, technology team build out and cloud enablement.

Tyme Digital India (2017): Led technology and execution of CBA's entry into the Indian SME payments market. Production ready within 9 months, leveraging an existing bank presence. CBA subsequently sold the Indian operation prior to go-live.

CBA Mobile Banking (2011): Initiated in April 2011, this programme delivered the world's first P2P and contact-less mobile payments service to CBA's Australian retail customers. Sponsored Agile as the execution method to assist in rapid flow from requirements and prototyping to delivery. First pilot drop was achieved within 6 months.

Finest Online (2008): Led delivery of $AUD80m initiative to uplift the Group's online & CRM capability. The strategic objective was to 1) achieve an online single view of customer, 2) transition the digital experience from transaction banking to online sales and service and 3) provide cross-channel consistency in all customer interactions. Revenue Benefits achieved ahead of plan costs ~10% below initial estimate.


Transformation & Capability Build

National Australia Bank's digital transformation (2018-2019): Uplift an ~1200 FTE technology function towards a scaled agile execution model. Includes establishment of a technology centre in SE Asia and aggressive cloud adoption (1000+ workloads) within regulatory guardrails.

Rebuild CBA Group's digital execution capability (2014-2015): Team expansion from circa 12 execution teams to a scaled operation of ~50 scrum teams over 18 months. Communities of practice in place to sustain the capability. Co-led this with product and governance teams.

Formulated and co-drove the Enterprise IT delivery's strategic change agenda (2013): Particular focus on team culture and agility initiatives rolled across 400+ FTE.


Strategy & Innovation

Founded VCB's first agile initiative - a Cloud-based origination platform leveraging in-branch iPad concierge experience and Facial Recognition AI technology.


Led the redesign of NAb UBank's technology strategy (2019), incorporating cloud ledger and refreshed channel platform.

Appointed to NAB's Corporate Venture Capital Advisory Board (2019)


Sponsored and led NetBank Labs (2012): Labs provided a vehicle for rapid delivery and testing of new concepts within CBA's 8 million active online banking customers.

Efficiency & Scale

Distributed Agile (2014/2015): Drove the Groups first multi-geography Agile implementation. 7 scrums located across Bangalore, Kochi and Manila provided additional capacity, with a net decrease in personnel rate cards by ~ 40% without quality compromise.

Lean Online (2014): Led CBA IT's first Lean initiative. Cost avoidance benefits forecast ~ 9%. Leveraged this initiative to adopt and broaden Agile and Continuous Delivery adoption.
