  • Company Overview: Santos GLNG is a joint venture project that will produce natural gas from Queensland’s coal seams and convert it into liquefied natural gas (LNG) for sale to world markets.
  • Delivered on time, on budget, voluntary land access for gas exploration and development including seismic surveys, pilot wells, production wells and gas/water/power connections
  • Identified the need, then drove development and implementation of proactive landholder engagement using targeted meetings and a landholder guide to CSG development
  • Demonstrated high level engagement and negotiation skills when business critical issues escalated, resulting in deadlines being met and the protection of social licence
  • Developed and then used in team resources to deliver a land access competency framework to GLNG Landholder Relations team members, establishing a minimum standard for all staff whilst also providing learning and development opportunities
  • Developed and implemented new contractual and commercial templates and terms which improved land access outcomes for Santos by reducing legal costs and timeframes
  • Project chair for successful IT project to capture external stakeholder information and compensation payments, replacing inefficient manual systems
  • Presentations to landholders, local council, state government ministers, Queensland Gasfield Commission, journalists, investors, joint venture representatives and board members

  • Led 4 teams (up to 45 team members), in two office locations
  • Landholder relationships and land access delivery including land purchase for Upstream development at Santos GLNG
  • Management of internal budget of circa $12M and external upfront and ongoing contractual compensation payments of circa $10M annually to around 300 landholders
  • Accountable for review of compensation methodology and development of commercial, contractual and legal strategies to achieve required land access and reduce legal costs;
  • Development of strategies in collaboration with project owners to plan for future land access needs, including identifying future strategic land purchases
  • Accountable for managing ongoing landholder relationships, during negotiation of agreements and during critical construction works

  • Company Overview: EHP, EPA and DERM were the environmental regulators accountable for the approval and regulation of industry in Queensland, including mining and gas development
  • Issued approvals that withstood scrutiny from review and appeals for gasfield development for LNG
  • Presented the Queensland Government position at whole of government community CSG information sessions, including often to hostile audiences in the Surat Basin
  • Negotiated successfully with CSG and UCG companies regarding environmental conditions and enforcement outcomes
  • Key contact for companies that were being prosecuted for environmental offences. Lead for briefing ministerial staff about these matters
  • Collaborated closely with Queensland Government regional offices responsible for on ground enforcement. Participated in high level inspections and audits
  • Key contact for Mayors and Queensland Health in regards to releases from CSG sites during the 2010/2011 floods
  • Responsibilities
  • Led 4 teams (up to 25 staff), responsible for the approval and regulation of all coal seam gas, natural gas, oil and UCG sites within Queensland
  • Led 80 staff in 6 month secondment as Director Compliance, in multiple offices across Queensland
  • Ensured team members were actively involved in proactive compliance activities targeting CSG and UCG sites with regional officers
  • Led the assessment of internal reviews sought by companies and the community
  • Led high level and often contentious negotiations with representatives of petroleum and gas companies in regards to assessments and final conditions for approvals
