Summary

As a proud Aboriginal woman, I am passionate about culturally responsive community and individual healing. I completed a Bachelors of Social Work (honors) from the University of New South Wales and did my honors thesis on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth suicide prevention. I have worked for Aboriginal community organisation for three years across the youth and adult spaces. My work ethic is characterized by compassion, commitment, efficiency, and innovative thinking. I bring a wealth of experience from diverse backgrounds, including social work, member services, as well as medical contexts. I currently work as the program lead on the Deadly Families program which focuses on child protection concerns and family and domestic violence, at Deadly Connections community and Justice Services.

Program Lead Caseworker

  • Provided culturally responsive holistic casework to Aboriginal mum and dads who have child protection concerns or experiences of family and domestic violence. I utilized a range of skills and strategies to implement client driven change with huge success.
  • Balanced a culturally safe and decolonizing social work practice with legal obligations and professional responsibility regarding child protection concerns including abuse, neglect, and safety.
  • Engaged with range of diverse stake holders including family members and relevant community organisations and government bodies, to build community and facilitate positive, trusting and professional relationships and facilitate strong referral pathways.
  • Used these referral pathways to assist families in navigating the social services system, including applying for benefits and housing applications, linking in with mental health and health services and prenatal care, accessing resources and connecting with other family support services.

  • Co-facilitated a mums and bubs group.

  • Program lead mentor on the Deadly Futures program which worked with Aboriginal young people who are involved or at risk of involvement in the criminal justice system
  • Collaborated with local youth services and mentors to facilitate community and strong referral pathways
  • Completed intake assessments and developed case plans including linking in with services such as housing and social services.
  • Developed a program to re-engaged Aboriginal young people who have not been attending school. Facilitated a range of workshops within this program for youth to improve their confidence and get them into employment or education. Counselled students regarding educational issues such as truancy, study habits and career planning.
  • Provided informal counselling to young people in crisis and ongoing guidance and coping mechanisms for dealing with difficult issues.
  • Facilitated outreach barbeques every Thursday evening in areas of high youth conflict and crime
  • Collaborated with other professionals including Department of Communities and Justice and Youth Justice to plan and coordinate care for clients.
