This role as a Production Biotechnologist has given me great insight into the requirements of working in a facility that produces a product under strict GMP, GLP, and OH&S guidelines
Monitor and run the production of BSA through each fractionation step
Set running conditions for both centrifuges to run (depending on if primary or secondary clarification is occurring)
Monitor flow rate and make sure no loss of product occurs
Monitor clarity of product and adjust parameters accordingly
Diagnose any issues and rectify
Completing batch record documentation
Perform each Quality Control step along the production process and flag any non-conforming results
From using a Spectrophotometer at multiple stages, to pH, conductivity, and temperature measurements
Carefully monitor and direct the movement of product from different tanks using pumps, pipes, hoses and valves
Make additions of both Caustic (NaOH) and Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) to carefully adjust the pH to achieve the desired range
Clean and sanitize all equipment involved in the production process
Working in a sterile environment using the correct PPE to prevent microbial growth or contamination
Represent the production crew at team meetings and discuss where the manufacturing process is up to for a smooth hand-over for the afternoon shift to begin
Operating a forklift truck.
QUALITY CONTROL FACILITATOR
AKZO NOBEL - INTERPON
02.2015 - 11.2022
After years of experience under my belt as a Q.C Technician, the opportunity presented itself for me to move into the Facilitator role
This broadened my knowledge and skill-set within the Q.C Lab and Factory
Responsibilities: Undertook the roll of Team Leader/Supervisor on weekend shifts (12 factory operators, 2 Lab staff)
Needed to be responsible for the shift achieving all the required scheduling targets
This would include identifying any issues that may occur throughout the day and creating solutions/problem solving to allow the production process to run as effectively and efficiently as possible without issue
I have always been "Safety" focused, but the Facilitator role allowed me to become a BBS (Behavioural Based Safety) observer
This required me to undertake multiple observations per month in different areas of the site and observe a task being performed
The key focus was on making sure the tasks where being conducted safely from an "outside" set of eyes
Dialogue would then occur between the observer and team member carrying out the task to see if improvements could be implemented to help the task be performed more safely
SAP knowledge acquired
This includes release of stock, movement of stock, additions and reversals
Data Entry - This would include batch records, uploading visual copies of batch documentation and long term warranty testing data
Problem solving skills became more fine-tuned
This came from dealing with not only factory issues regarding quality, but also customer complaints
Represent the Quality Team at both the morning toolbox meeting (communicate to the factory operators) and the daily performance meeting (communicate to the lab staff and supervisors) around any problems that may have arisen or require attention, in the factory quality control process
Approve and sign off product for batch release
Able to calibrate lab equipment
Experience with using Colos Designer and Bartender Automation software for creating/printing box labels, extruder labels, warning labels etc.
QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICIAN
AKZO NOBEL - INTERPON
02.2007 - 02.2015
I began at Akzo Nobel as a Q.C Technician
This introduced me to the entire powder coatings process, from production to Q.C testing to release
It also familiarized me with the needs of a Q.C lab to run efficiently
Responsibilities: Powder coat samples at the required film thickness and maintain the spray gun, sieve grinder and booth efficiently so no contamination occurs to ensure clean product
Data Entry of long term warranty test results into Microsoft Excel
This included preparing, keeping track of and testing the coated samples after long term exposure to salt, humidity and UV conditions
Fully conduct the complete lab process of weighing raw materials, mixing, lab extruding, grinding, sieving, spraying, baking, testing and adjusting when required to achieve the desired product
Extensive experience in using data colour software to adjust pigment quantities to achieve the desired colour specification
Accurately test and assess powder lab samples for quality issues that may prevent release
These can include problems with inclusions, flow, orange peel, depth of image, sparkles, oversize, cure, pin holes, spots and colour
Familiar with using SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Proficient in following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and updating when necessary.
