I am multi-sport athlete with a remarkable journey through various sports. Growing up, I excelled in rugby league, signing with the Gold Coast Titans at just 15 years old. In addition to Rugby League, I played goalkeeper, representing both state and country in soccer from age 15 - 19.
My athletic journey took me to the United States, where I played soccer at a college level before making a significant transition to American football as a placekicker at the University of Hawaii. After graduating, I faced a setback with an ACL tear but demonstrated resilience by making a strong recovery.
I went on to sign a professional contract with the Edmonton Elks in the Canadian Football League and later joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders, where I made history as the first Australian to convert a field goal in a professional regular season football game. My diverse athletic background and determination highlights my dedication to sports.
Throughout my playing career, I have been dedicated to nurturing the next generation of athletes. I've consistently made myself available to coach young goalkeepers, kickers and rugby league players, sharing my extensive knowledge and experience.
Currently, I'm part of the coaching staff for the Tweed Heads Seagulls in the Mal Meninga Cup, where I assist my older brother, Sam Meskell. Under Sam's leadership, the team achieved remarkable success, winning the States elite U/19's competition while going undefeated throughout the season. My commitment to coaching is simply through my passion for the sport and my desire to give back to the community.
This year, I expanded my American football expertise by volunteering as a coach with the University of Hawaii football team during their 2024 training camp. While I had already gained valuable insights as a player over six years, this coaching experience significantly deepened my understanding of the American game. I benefited greatly from the role, learning new drills and refining techniques that I can now apply to training athletes in various positions rather than just kicking, punting & long snapping. My commitment to continuous improvement highlights my passion for the sport and my desire to become a well-rounded coach and talent identifyer.
I have had the privilege of learning from some of the best in the business. I'm very lucky to have renowned coaches among my mentors. Craig Bellamy, head coach of the Melbourne Storm, Paul Roos, Hall of Fame AFL coach, and Ricky Stuart, head coach of the Canberra Raiders, are all personal friends who have shared invaluable insights with me. Their guidance has been instrumental in shaping my coaching philosophy and understanding of talent development. With access to such experienced mentors, I feel very well-equipped to foster the skills and potential of the young athletes I train.
With my playing days behind me, I am now looking to take my next step forward into a professional career of player development & talent Identifying.
