In 2023, I was promoted to the rank of Cadet Corporal within my squadron, a leadership role that required intense training, testing and completion of a week-long development course.
This rank is a leadership role that involves the supervision of junior cadets, delivering and organising lessons on topics like fieldcraft and survival, in a safe and structured environment.
This role deepened my engagement with and contribution to the squadron whilst also developing my own skills in leadership, teamwork, adaptability, confidence, discipline, communication and more.
A large part of it was also teaching me how to remain composed in stressful situations, take initiative and lead- qualities that have shaped myself and the way I apply myself in academic, social and various other settings.
Mercy Action Leader
Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta
Parramatta
08.2024 - 08.2025
In mid 2024, I was elected by both peers and staff of the college as a Senior Year 12 leader.
I was honoured to be chosen as one of the two Mercy Action Leaders - an opportunity I aspired and worked for since my junior years.
My early involvement in the Mercy Action co-curricular group and consistent participation in social justice initiatives across the school laid the foundation for this role.
Working with my partner, I was responsible for leading fortnightly meetings, organising awareness campaigns and coordinating charitable initiatives focused on community service and equality.
What drew me to this position was my deep-rooted passion for social justice and the sense of responsibility I felt to support others.
The role fulfilled this by allowing me to give back to the community by coordinating numerous initiatives for charities such as St Vincent de Paul Society and Project Compassion.
During Lent, we led a Project Compassion Campaign, raising over $8000 through various organized events such as the Easter Raffle, Cocoa for Caritas, and the St Vincent de Paul Society Sleepout.
In this role, I worked closely with teachers, other student leaders and younger students, aiming to offer a sense of service, empathy and community involvement.
I also developed valuable skills in leadership, public speaking, time management and event organisation.
This role not only improved my leadership abilities but also reaffirmed my commitment to others and to being an advocate for justice.
Netball Captain
Saint Andrews Netball Club
07.2023 - 09.2024
In both the 2023 and 2024 seasons, I was selected by my coach to be the captain of my netball team.
This role recognised my ability to lead by example, motivate teammates during tough games, manage different team dynamics and stay positive in high pressure environments.
As the captain my focus was on team cohesion and supporting each other which is a vital aspect of any team sport.
This experience significantly strengthened my leadership, collaboration and communication skills as well as my ability to motivate and inspire others.
