Across the range of jobs I have had, in both teaching and horticulture, the aspect I have enjoyed the most is helping people achieve what they wanted. In teaching, I much preferred the small group or one-on-one situations. In the garden industry I loved to help customers create gardens they were happy with and could enjoy. I feel , therefore, that I can be of use in this situation too, helping people gain the skills and knowledge to continue living in the community.
One of my brother's has an intellectual disability, from birth. There are many skills I have learnt along the way with him, including the need for a great deal of patience. Now he is over sixty years old and so I hold Enduring Power of Attorney and deal with the NDIS on his behalf.
I believe that strong communication skills are essential.
