04.2011 - 08.2021
  • Since April 2011, I worked as a contract interpreter with TIS National, which is an organization established through the Department of Home Affairs. TIS National deployed interpreters nationwide and was also responsible for the deployment of interpreters in Immigration Detention Canters (IDC) both on Australian shores, as well as, in offshore regional processing canters. During my employment with TIS, I worked as a contract interpreter in Christmas Island, Curtin, Scherger and Darwin IDCs. Working as a contract interpreter, has been an outstanding opportunity for me in order to assist the men and women of my home country Afghanistan.
  • During the same period, I worked for two other organisations as a contract interpreter. I worked for Oncalls Interpreting and Translation Services and Ethnic Interpreting Services.

Project Advisor, In-Field Monitoring and Evaluation Representative

Indigo Foundation Australia
04.2004 - 12.2014
  • In 2004 I took a proposal to Indigo Foundation Australia to support a project to build schools in my home village of Borjegai, Afghanistan. We felt the need was enormous, as in those days, very few girls received education and many boys had to attend schools in rudimentary conditions. I put a proposal together and the Indigo Foundation management committee supported the project and I was appointed Project Advisor. It took time and energy to generate support for the project, but in the last few years we have had many successes.
  • I was responsible for the transfer of funds from Australian donors to the village representatives, and to ensure the funds were spent for the purposes they were intended. With the development and expansion of the project, three times I have left my home in Australia to visit the village to monitor progress and check everything is progressing well. While in Afghanistan it was my responsibility to collect photos and DVD footage for Indigo Foundation for their use on the website and other promotional material. When I returned, I was required to provide verbal and written reports, as well as give formal presentations about my trip. I designed a strategy for expansion of the project and made recommendations to Indigo Foundation and its partner Rotary Club of Ryde, a member of Rotary International, for how the project can be made more effective.
  • Key Achievements of the School Project: Facilitated dialogue between Indigo Foundation Australia and the Borjegai community in Afghanistan (and more recently the Rotary Club of Ryde) to propose develop and implement a program that now delivers high-quality educational programs to 5,000 local children, 40 percent of whom are girls.
  • Managed the allocation of funds from Australian donors to Afghanistan beneficiaries, and monitored the progress of the project from Australia to ensure funds were spent appropriately to meet project objectives.
  • Met and exceeded the reporting requirements and expectations of Indigo Foundation Australia and major partner Ryde Club of Rotary; and made various public presentations as and when required to assist with awareness-raising and fundraising activities.
  • Co-developed an expansion strategy plan in 2011 that will allow Australian donors to make a bigger contribution to supporting education programs in Borjegai village. The project is aiming to educate fifteen thousand children by 2016.

In the former I delivered the lectures in the class and in the later I engaged in research to prepare the educational curriculum based on Afghan culture, religion, history, etc.
