Program Coordinator

Atherton Gardens Homework Support Program
01.2009 - 01.2011

The program was a joint community engagement initiative between The Smith Family, Australian Catholic University (ACU), and National Australia Bank (NAB). Its purpose was to build community capacity by engaging children from refugee and disadvantaged backgrounds, together with their families, in education.

Achievements:

  • The program was named Schools First State Impact award winner for Victoria and received $100,000 to strengthen the program and to ensure its sustainability.
  • From an initial 18 children, the Homework Support Program evolved to reach 132 children over two locations at the Atherton Gardens Housing Estate, Fitzroy.

Responsibilities:

  • Managed the coordination of media and communications efforts to drive initiative promotion and increase social consciousness about related matters.
  • Designed and implemented learning enrichment curriculum for children as well as supported programs for families.
  • Managed and coordinated voluntary assistance and corporate funding for program sustainability and support.
