Assistant Community Corrections Officer
Department of Corrective Services, Fremantle CYJ
I am currently undertaking the role of Assistant Community Corrections Officer (ACCO) at Fremantle Community Corrections.
As an ACCO, I hold a low caseload of offenders, a community work caseload, a home detention portfolio, and general Community Work sign-ups.
In order to remain organized and meet deadlines with reviews and breaches advised, I had organized my days in advance using Outlook Calendar.
Often, within my day, urgent home visits, home detention hook-ups, or other tasks would be required, and they would disrupt the planning of the day.
I found I am able to be flexible with my day and attend to the unexpected tasks that arise.
Following this, I would return to my own work and complete it as required.
I am aware of what my priorities were, what needed to be done with a sense of urgency, and what could be left if required.
In this role, I have gathered extensive knowledge of the Department of Justice database systems, such as C-BIS, and knowledge of other departmental databases, including the prison database (Total Offender Management Solution), the Integrated Court Management System (ICMS), and HPER.
During my time in this role, I have had to work with a wide range of external agencies, including the Department for Child Protection and Family Support, Victim Support Services, Holyoake, Wungening Corporation, and the Central Offending Monitoring Unit.
When liaising with these agencies, I have had to provide accurate and appropriate information in a timely manner, while also being aware of confidentiality and ensuring that only information pertinent to case and risk management is released.
Following this, it is essential to ensure that all interactions with relevant agencies are documented in CBIS in a timely and accurate manner, so that colleagues can follow up if required.
Liaison Officer
Department of Corrective Services, Victim-offender Mediation Unit
Liaison Officer. In this role, my responsibilities are to assess the suitability of referrals we receive from external stakeholders, such as Community Correction Officers and the Victim Notification Registry.
Upon deeming the referrals appropriate, I gather relevant information regarding the case to be entered into the departmental database, VMUD.
By gathering this information, I need to use my knowledge of the departmental database systems VMU and utilize other departmental database systems.
Such as TOMS, CHIPS, and C-BIS.
Upon gathering and entering this information, I may need to liaise with external stakeholders, such as the Information Release Centre and DCP, to gather relevant contact details for victims.
I have had to work closely with these agencies to provide accurate and appropriate information to assist with the referral process.
However, I am aware of my limitations surrounding the information shared with victims, and I am ever mindful of my ethical responsibility regarding confidentiality, along with adhering to the department’s policies and procedures.
