It was very rewarding leading a team and gave me a great deal of humility and understanding of what it takes to run a business.

  • Worked in a large team of approximately 200 staff in the existing business arm of AMP Banking. My role was to provide or not provide credit for the purpose of new loans, construction loans, investment lending, portfolio/margin lending, Additional advances, Product Changes, Substitutions of Security and Discharges. This role gave me a good insight into lending criteria, dealing with solicitors, valuers, brokers, and internal management. I also was involved in the development of the loan documentation (variation documents) that are still used today by AMP Banking.

  • Promoted to Head Office due to my good work ethic at Advance bank my responsibilities increased. Dealing with small and large customers in the CBD in business banking, foreign exchange, offset products, overdraft facilities. Other duties included: general telling, balancing ATM & Safe, cross selling bank products such as travel insurance & credit cards, merchant banking and excellent communication with staff & clients. At this point I had been building strong relationships with many business bankers/corporate accounts and had developed a strong understanding of lending and was shortly approached to join AMP Banking.

  • Responsible for the sale of ERP software package called Exact Software which targeted small to medium size business, via cold calling, door knocking & networking. This software catered for accounts, distribution, HR, service, product development/monitoring (such as serial batch control). Some of my clients included Pace Farm Foods, Manassen Foods, Simmons Lumber, Nutricia, Rotary, SCIA, Australian Native Landscapes, Rothmans, and Sherwood Medical. This gave me a good understanding of how different industries operate, and different owners operate. In addition to ERP I also sold both Hardware & Networking solutions. This would require site inspections with technician from our firm, discussions with the client's management group, and a plan of execution in conjunction with a costing and roll out time. I really enjoyed working with all the different staff and clients in this industry as before you could begin selling, you had to discover the mechanics of their business before you could decide if our product would be a good fit for both of us. I enjoyed meeting the hierarchy of companies and getting to know them personally and some are still friends today.
