Summary

With my qualifications in Community Education and Social Work along side my work and voluntary experience I have been able to develop my skills and understanding of how to work in a range dynamic communities. I aim to make sure that every piece of work I am involved in results in some improvement to the community I am based in. The mains areas of work that my career has focused on has been working to improve the lives of young people and their families. I have a great interest in youth work, community work, food insecurity and funding.

  • Leading a team to set an impact to improve the lives of children, young people and adults with a ranging level of additional support needs.
  • Facilitating activities to be inclusive for people with additional support needs.
  • Assisted campers with personal care on a daily basis while ensuring that their dignity was always of paramount importance.
  • Adapting communication style to work with people that were non-verbal or used signing to communicate.

  • Direct 1:1 support with young people to over come any adversity they could be facing using trauma informed therapeutic methods.
  • Practitioner in Family Group Decision Making-establishing trust and rapport with families to allow them a space to discuss a concern or a problem.
  • Keeping up to date with ranging paper work to safeguard children and their families.
  • Successfully applying for funding and presenting to a range of Oil and Gas companies in Aberdeen to support our cause. Raising £50,000.
  • Set up and executed a garden space for families supported by Children 1st to use, providing growing and eating learning opportunities, along side mental health support.

• Directly involved with the pilot scheme of free period products in Scotland, focusing on distribution and advice for community groups to be involved. Having some affect on Scotland becoming the first country to provide free period products.

  • Management of surplus food from manufacturers to be distributed to the community of Aberdeen.
  • Set up a project providing clothing to families across the North East of Scotland. This project focused on making sure that families felt dignity.
  • Presented in front of a range of executive companies and organisations looking for funding. Within my time at CFINE I along side others managed to create funding partnerships resulting in £365,000. Many of these partners are still involved.

Family Social Worker

  • Working directly with families to provide some contact between them that would be on a supervision order.
  • Provide Routes to Empathy course with children aged 4-8. The course entailed the children learning about their emotions and how to communicate their feelings affectively.
  • Work directly with parents around improved parenting methods and assist with families being closer together.
  • Set up and ran group for male guardians to learn more about their parenting styles and the origins of this, with a high focus on generational trauma.
