• I am writing to express my interest in the Dragline Operator position at BHP’s Peak Downs Mine, as advertised on SEEK. With over 30 years of open-cut mining experience, including more than a decade at the Blackwater Mine site—under both BMA and now Whitehaven ownership—I bring a proven record of safe, efficient, and high-output dragline operations that directly align with BHP’s operational expectations and safety culture.
• During my tenure at the Blackwater site, I have operated both Marion 8050 and 8200 draglines, as well as the Bucyrus-Erie 1370 UDD, in a range of pit conditions and production targets. My focus on dig plan precision, maintaining strong pass rates, and effective spoil placement has consistently contributed to team productivity goals. I’ve worked side-by-side with supervisors, dispatch, and planning teams to deliver consistent shift performance while maintaining a flawless safety record—with zero lost time injuries over my 30-year career.
• My operational scope goes well beyond just dragline operation. I am highly skilled in the use of track dozers and cable tractors, supporting floor preparation, ramp construction, dump shaping, and dragline walks. Over the years, I’ve also played a leading role in planning and executing high-voltage trailing cable re-routes, substation relocations, and associated earthworks—ensuring safe and timely movement of large electric equipment across dynamic pit conditions. These capabilities were developed during my years at BMA and continue to be a core part of my value to any dragline crew.
• In addition to hands-on mining experience, I hold a trade qualification in diesel mechanics (Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical), along with Certificate IV in Occupational Health & Safety, Certificate IV in Training & Assessment, and a Diploma in OHS. I also spent several years running my own equipment maintenance business, managing rebuilds, project planning, and labour coordination—an experience that gave me a strong foundation in leadership, reliability, and business accountability.
