SEAN OLLIFFE

My roles as a laborer at on the East coast has been to work on a variety of different construction projects, preparing the site and making sure the work area has been kept clean and tidy, working with different tools to complete tasks in a timely manner, helping lift material on site, helping transporting material from supplier to site.

• I was working on a deer farm up on the central highlands. In this role I was an all-rounder doing many daily jobs on the property: tractor work, gardening and landscaping, concreting, general maintenance and irrigation work.

• Working on a large Sandalwood and Mahogany farm on 10 hours shifts using either an electric chainsaw for pruning or a 2 Stroke petrol for felling trees. This work was carried out during the dry season where I was working in the heat carrying a 6 kg or 10 kg chainsaw wearing all the correct PPE.

• Working for Fencing Contractors in Far north QLD on cattle stations between the tablelands toward Mt. Isa. Our job as a team of 2 was to use the Airdolly (13KG) or Hydraulic Dolly to hammer in 3 star pickets 2 feet into the ground, roll out 4 rolls of Barb-wire, tension, tie off and clean up any mess. During these months I worked 6 days a week in the heat of the wet and dry season and completed around 230 km of clean fence line. I also learned how to cut thick steel using oxygen acetylene and weld outdoors.

• Working on job sites around Townsville for a small business. My duties included measuring and cutting plaster to size, glueing beams and placing and nailing plaster to the beams, picking up and carrying plaster and tidying the site and making sure any mess is put away properly to ensure a safe work area.

Responsible for delivering packages in and around the city to customers, making sure the van was kept organised and the correct parcels were going to the right places, handling and lifting the parcels the correct way. Following the correct road safety rules.
