Work History

Mathematics Teacher and Year Level Coordinator

Cavendish Road State High School
Holland Park, Queensland
01.2024 - 12.2024
  • As a mathematics teacher, I taught Year 9 general math, Year 11 methods, and Year 12 general math. I was the lead teacher of 11 methods, and as such, I was responsible for unit planning, writing and administering assessment, and leading a small group of teachers. This role also included submitting assessment pieces to the QCAA for endorsement.
  • As Year 9 Coordinator, I was responsible for overseeing wellbeing initiatives for the year level and working closely in a team with the Year 9 Deputy Principal and Year 9 Guidance Officer.
  • In 2024, this included leading the Year 9 Student Leaders in fortnightly meetings and providing them opportunities to develop their leadership capabilities through running events (Harmony Day and Australia's Biggest Morning Tea), speaking at Year Level Parades, attending an Altitude Leadership conference in Brisbane City, and establishing a connection with Seville Road SS by providing student leaders to run activities at their Under 8s activity day.
  • I also helped organise and assisted with programs aimed at targeted engagement of at-risk students, including a boys' group and a girls' group for the Onwards and Upwards mentoring program, and a small group of boys who completed a Boxing Beyond Barriers program. These interventions had a profoundly positive effect on student behaviour and engagement.
  • Other large events that required planning and communication with parents and students were the subject information night for Year 9 and 10, as well as organising and coordinating the Year 9 Camp, which was attended by 274 students, and a QUT Experience day at the Gardens Point campus in the last week of Term 4.
