Formed part of the HV crew. Following engineer drawings, I'm heavily involved in the set up of underground conduits in trenches coming from the overhead lines to the substations, and in the the heavy process of pulling HV cables (11Kv - 33Kv) through them. Also designing the path coming out of conduits to their final destinations by fabricating and installing cable supports.
I helped the electrical and mechanical crews with several tasks, I was mostly working as a all rounder in the mechanical aspect of the plant by building cabletrays or designing stands for conduits, instruments, valves and sensors, I was assisting the Boilermakers in the manufacturing of these pieces and also helping the Riggers, Cranes and Pipe Fitters in the installation of the pipe work.
I've had the opportunity to work with several crews, I've learnt the WHS regulations and to adapt myself to the Australian Standards. Due to my experience, I’ve been able to help the Electricians by installing cable trays and other electrical components. I've also had the chance to help Welders and Pipe Fitters with their day-to-day tasks and learnt a lot from this experience.
It was my first experience of working on a mine site in Australia and I learnt about how mine construction sites work and, above all, the importance of safety measures on such projects. I assisted the Electricians in the installation of cable trays and different types of conduit and was heavily involved in pulling various cables.
I was recruited by this company to lead a team of 7 Electricians on a number of projects, including the construction or renovation of supermarkets and various residential buildings. I was responsible for supervising the progress and smooth running of the projects, as well as installing all the electrical equipment. I ran weekly meetings between clients, engineers and contractors to follow up each project.
I worked with them straight after my apprenticeship, I had the opportunity to work in several sectors: construction, commercial and industrial. I learned how to become a qualified Electrician by being involved in all aspects of the Trade. I've had the opportunity to work on major projects such as the construction of Brussels Airport in Belgium.
