• Collecting and analyzing semen samples for fertility assessments (to evaluate male reproductive health by evaluating the quality and quantity of the semen sample) treatments and performing sperm preparation techniques for intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF) or for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
• Collaborate with urologists for MicroTESE/TESA PESA by obtaining and preparing the equipment and materials needed for the procedure, including sterile surgical instruments and laboratory supplies. working closely with the urologist performing the surgery to ensure that the extracted testicular tissue is handled carefully to avoid damaging the sperm by receiving the testicular tissue samples from the urologist and processing them in the laboratory to identify and isolate viable sperms using specialized laboratory techniques to separate the sperm from other materials in the testicular tissue. then cryopreserve them.
• Collecting and processing the follicular fluid, oocytes obtained from the patient during the OPU procedure. Identifying and selecting the mature oocytes that are suitable for fertilization. Evaluating the quality of the oocytes based on criteria such as size, shape, and maturity. Preparing the oocytes for fertilization, either by conventional IVF or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
• Performing the denudation by removing the surrounding cumulus cells from the oocyte to facilitate fertilization using specialized laboratory techniques to avoid damaging the oocyte. Then evaluating the quality of the denuded oocyte to determine the best method of fertilization.
• Performing Oocytes/Embryos cryopreservation while ensuring that the Oocytes/Embryos are properly labelled and tracked to avoid mix-ups or errors and perform embryo transfers (ET) to the uterus of the intended mother.
• Liaising with other healthcare providers, such as urologists, to coordinate patient care and ensure that all procedures and protocols are followed and provide counselling and support to patients and their partners regarding fertility issues.
• Ensure that all laboratory protocols and procedures are followed to maintain a safe and ethical work environment, report any OHS concerns and participate in quality control activities to maintain the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
• Laboratory inventory control: stocktake, ordering, receival & inspection, storing and organizing laboratory supplies and equipment in a manner that ensures they are easily accessible and properly labelled.
• Ensuring that all laboratory supplies and equipment are properly maintained and calibrated and arranging for repairs or replacements as needed and making recommendations for new purchases or upgrades based on laboratory needs.
• Daily routine tasks: Media preparation for Embryo culturing and fertilization, Prepare the paperwork for next day cases, write reports, and print them to be in the patient’s file on a daily basis, fill the LN tanks twice a week, monitor the gas levels and opening and closing the laboratory with my colleagues.
