As the Aboriginal Education Worker (AEW) I play a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to engage positively with education. I work in partnership with staff, families, and the broader community and closely by the AEO (Aboriginal Education Officer) to ensure a culturally safe and inclusive learning environment. My role promotes cultural understanding and strengthens relationships between the school and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and within community.

Key Responsibilities within the role

- Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with in class support within academic needs but also culture.

- Support the educational, social, and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

- Build strong relationships with students and act as a cultural mentor and advocate.

- Assist in developing and delivering culturally appropriate programs and activities.

- Support teachers in incorporating Aboriginal perspectives across the curriculum.

- Promote cultural safety and understanding within the school community.

- Liaise with families, carers, Elders, and community organisations to strengthen support networks for students.
