Data Solution Specialist

In my role as data solutions specialist at Woodside I've taken position in a cross functional team that focuses on design thinking and agile delivery of new bespoke products. This role requires that I navigate various parts of the business to uncover their needs and also work with the established data teams to assemble required data whilst taking into consideration the governance processes.

Project : Condition Based Monitoring

An IOT machine learning project centered on detecting equipment failure and failure modes through vibration sensors reporting across a LoRaWAN. My role in this project was working in an agile scrum team as a data solution specialist, I was responsible for the integration and orchestration of a software solution which provided payloads and training data for machine learning models.

Project : SWFT Lodestar / Control Tower

Lodestar is a Supply Chain optimization project for predicting maintenance delivery timeframes before decisions are made around ordering. Control Tower is a Supply Chain optimization project for tracking materials through its delivery process to give a current state view on its predicted arrival. My role in this project was working in an agile scrum team as a data solution specialist, I was responsible for the integration, orchestration, data modelling, and mlops for two aforementioned software solutions.

Agile project delivery on a greenfield Synapse data platform with a lambda / medallion architecture utilizing Azure Data Lake Gen 2, Azure Spark, Databricks, SQL Serverless and Synapse Pipelines. Terraform infrastructure as code deployed on an Azure DevOps CI/CD framework. Explorations in to modelling standards including both Dimensional and Data Vault.

Agile project delivery on edge analytics framework running on Azure Stack Edge for hosting data science models and providing time series analytics. Development of data service standards, guidelines and governance documentation for data engineering and data analytics teams. Development of source data extractions using a variety of tools such as Data Factory, Databricks, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Azure Batch. Development of metadata driven ingestion and orchestration pipelines. (Data Factory, BIML, Go Fast Framework) Implementation of security and sensitive handling on datasets. (AAD authentication, row and column level security, data masking).

Agile project delivery on process historian integrated data platform combining near real time large volume timeseries data with contextual batch loads using HDInsight Spark, Azure Blob and SQLDW. Outcome was a foundational platform for value driving machine learning models delivering $3million+ in savings for the business. Also did the development of IoT Edge solution for tracking the location of people and trucks, critical information for the safety of mining personnel and the assets. This was the foundation for a geo-zoning safety solution. Several other projects included the modernisation of legacy SSRS reporting to paginated PowerBI reports, as well as the implementation of platform monitoring using OMS.

At the start of my data career I was initially responsible for the maintenance of Worsley Alumina’s SQL server instances including patching, monitoring and capacity planning. Related activities included having responsibility for regular backups, verification and restorations. Other tasks related to being a DBA for a large organisation were to perform query optimization and indexing, as well as security management and auditing. Other critical management activities were to implement Microsoft SCOM monitoring of all Dev, Test and Prod database servers, key to keeping a 24x7 operation functioning correctly. And last but not least, deployment and maintenance of SSRS instances.
