I worked as a mainstream 3rd class teacher (8-9 year olds). This school was classified as a DEIS (disadvantaged) School. Here, I delivered education to pupils from various backgrounds with specific educational and care needs. With this school having a special needs unit, I was also able to observe and practice personalised provisions for children with complex needs.

I worked as a substitute teacher in several different schools across Co. Mayo before securing a long-term temporary role at Knock National School. During this time many schools employed me as an EAL teacher to support the Ukranian refugee children that were placed in their schools.

I was employed as a Phonics booster/Cover Teacher before taking over as the Mainstream Class Teacher in a Year 2 Class in January 2021. I taught the class through online learning during the lockdown of 2021, whilst also teaching the children of key workers and vulnerable children at the school. From September 2021, I class shared a Year 3 Class. During this time I was also a cover teacher covering all classes from Nursery to Year 6 (Age 3-11). I also carried out learning support interventions in these classes. I was the school Geography Lead from September 2021 where I was involved in creating a new curriculum for the school.

    I participated in regular CPD from 2019-2023 The training undertaken included, but was not limited to enhanced safeguarding, targeted practices for SEND children, curriculum knowledge boosters, outdoor learning, Geography subject lead training, behaviour management in socioeconomically deprived areas, Adverse Childhood Experience awareness and English as an additional language teaching

Relevant hobbies

  • I currently play on a Gaelic football team, Gold Coast Gaels, and formerly played as part of Liverpool Wolfe Tones ladies Gaelic football team for the 2021/22 season.
  • I played Irish traditional music on the fiddle and tin whistle from ages 7-16. I recently used these skills again to teach children during my teaching experience in Co. Mayo and in Liverpool.
  • Artistic and creative practices have always been a personal passion of mine. I love sharing my passion and skills with children in all year groups. My resourcefulness and creativity has allowed me to adapt artistic activities to encourage progression amongst children of different skill sets.
