In the Disability sector, Sharon is a parent to a neuro divergent adult son, Chair to Melbourne Project Independence and is an All Abilities Basketball Coach at Power Assist Basketball Association - (‘a not for profit’ focussed on developing self esteem and personal development for people with an ID.)

As the Melbourne Chair of Project Independence, she and the Melbourne Board and Committee have spent the last years liaising with Councils, Developers, and Canberra’s PI Board looking to establish Canberra’s model in Melbourne. She hopes to use her own experience as a parent to address and improve the issue of independent living for vulnerable people.

  • Plan Agendas and oversee Committee and Board meetings.
  • Foster relationships by attending meetings with Melbourne Councils, Government representatives and aligning charities. Assist in seeking out collaborations, partnerships, grants and housing development opportunities.
  • Attend the organization's public events including fundraising, and advocating for its mission and values in the community.
  • Initiated discussion to expand Project Independence to Melbourne with it's founder.
  • Along side our Melbourne board members, I located and oversaw the purchase of our first property in GlenHuntly with the council approvals relevant for the refurbishment of our first Melbourne PI development.
  • Maintain records of meetings, decisions, and action items to ensure accountability and follow-through.
  • Enhance Committee meeting productivity by organizing and distributing materials in advance.
