My first role as site engineer had me overseeing daily activity at the Edmondson Park North Commuter Carpark site. We were working for AW Edwards on the $50M construction of a multi-story carpark.

Mainland was responsible for the early construction which involved bulk excavation, piling, shoring, installation of the stormwater drainage system and detailed excavation.

My responsibilities specifically were:

• Ensuring safety standards are met on site.
• Organising deliveries and construction equipment.
• Scheduling and making sure that schedules are being met.
• Ensuring QA such as ITP’s and sign off are completed on time.
• Developed cost estimates for planned projects to aid in costing and budget planning efforts.
• Recorded daily events and activities in site diary to evaluate process and improve productivity.
• Checked technical designs and drawings for adherence to standards.
• Communicating with clients and subcontractors effectively to make sure that standards are being met.
• Supervised and monitored daily tasks of multiple subcontractors.
• Tracking variations.

• Bar organisation and team management.
• Completed bar opening and closing procedures.
• Managed bar inventory, restocked supplies and placed orders for spirits, beer, wines and mixers.
• Responsible for incentives.
• Long hours into the early morning.
• Constant busy bar work.
• Most important skill I gained in the hospitality industry is how to effectively communicate with a great variety of people.
