  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Architecture, Development, Verification, and Site Acceptance teams, to see through the delivery of themes from definition through to deployment.
  • Coordinated the development activities within the joint development program between Liebherr and Fortescue, establishing processes for sharing knowledge, reviewing, and aligning on project scope, and keeping track of joint development activities, including joint integration of systems from proof of concept to the development of high-precision machine guidance product.
  • Liaise with on-site support teams and project teams to prioritise critical bugs, ensuring minimum impact to the production environment.
  • Support the scrum masters, development coordinators, and squad leads with reviewing the backlog, prioritisation of activities, and guidance on sprint goals.
  • Provide technical leadership when exploring solutions for issues identified during the review of significant incidents, and manage a small team of developers to deliver proof of concepts to achieve decarbonisation goals of the business for heavy machinery.

Squad Lead - Autonomy

Fortescue
Perth, Australia
06.2022 - 08.2023
  • Reviewed product requirements and initiatives with the product owner to prepare a backlog of tasks for the development team, delivering a vehicle awareness product as part of the fleet management project.
  • Managed the fortnightly sprint, balancing the team assignments, capacity management, team availability for unplanned work/bugs, while maintaining a consistent delivery of sprint goals as part of vehicle awareness and fleet management system for the Iron Bridge project.
  • Monitor the progress of the sprint and the individual velocities to utilise team retrospectives to understand areas needing improvement and celebrate success.
  • Built a high-performing team of different skill sets and diverse backgrounds, focusing on team processes, people, and outcomes.
  • Contributed to individual development plans of teammates, organising one-on-one sessions to identify areas to improve in line with business values on family-focused culture, improving safety of operations, and to encourage generating ideas.
  • Coordinated the development of a proof of concept to integrate the vehicle awareness system with a machine telemetry solution to provide machine guidance for Excavator Operators in partnership with Liebherr and Fortescue, and provided technical leadership to prove the concept for the high precision machine guidance product.

Senior Engineer - Autonomy

Fortescue
Perth, Australia
01.2021 - 06.2022
  • Demonstrated abilities in implementing modern C++ principles and practices as part of rail mapping, vehicle awareness, and fleet management projects.
  • Collaborated with an external specialist to create a calibration procedure for a Lidar and GNSS system, which was implemented in autonomous haulage and digital terrain mapping solutions.
  • Conducted safety analysis on design components of safety-critical systems, identifying gaps and implementing necessary protections to ensure safe functionality in the vehicle awareness system developed for fleet management.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide quick feedback from feasibility studies and proof of concepts prior to committing a larger number of resources to develop a solution to detect tray strike incidents for autonomous haul trucks and provide early warnings to loader operators.

Autonomy Systems Engineer

Fortescue
Perth, Australia
07.2019 - 01.2021
  • Offered technical guidance to convert intricate business and functional requirements into concise technical system specifications for a digital terrain mapping project.
  • Designed the high-level system architecture, including offboard data storage, desktop user interface, system component interactions, and data flows involved with producing point cloud maps, to incorporate with company geospatial information systems.
  • As part of autonomous robotics inspections project, demonstrated my ability to integrate various sub-systems (Simulation, Software, Control Logic, Sensors, Electronics, Mechanical) into a single robotic platform in collaboration with a larger cross functional team (Project, Engineering, Specialists, Procurement, Management, External Vendors).
  • Collaborated with principals, external vendors, and other SMEs to determine the optimal computer architecture for the autonomous light vehicle project.

Robotics Research Engineer

Edith Cowan University
Perth, Australia
02.2019 - 06.2019
  • Collaborated with DSTG on a joint research program to create a cutting-edge robotic system capable of mapping and delivering medical aid in unexplored environments.
  • Collaborated with project stakeholders and vendors to assess project requirements and evaluate the feasibility of achieving desired outcomes using available technologies.
  • Provided technical leadership in creating a peer-reviewed design, highlighting limitations and outcomes.
