Shehan Jayawardane

In my role at WAFMS I have been between field service throughout all of WA and also been apart of the shutdown crews. Whilst working here I have been to many sites through the pilbara, goldfields and the south west. I have carried out fieldservice/breakdown service for clients while based out on site as apart of the crew, carried out major component change outs on various mining equipment and have excelled my skills in diagnostics and fault finding. During my time here I have gained the skill to quickly adapt to different work environments from being alone and efficient on breakdowns/field service to working and communicating well in small and larger crews.

This was my own business I started once I wanted a break from FIFO, during this time I had a few clients where I was incharge of maintenance and repairs on there fleets of trucks and buses this included scheduling and carrying out services as required,carrying out engine and transmission ect changeouts, diagnostic work and breakdowns. I enhanced my skills on time management and ability to professionally communicate with clients, whilst also learning to do purchasing invoicing and inventory to help run the business smoothly

In this role I worked in a variety of fields from breakdown fitter to in the workshop whilst guiding apprentices. whilst carrying out certain tasks such as. Disassembled and repaired diesel engines in trucks and buses. Completed checklist of fluid levels, air filter, tire pressure and more as part of service orders. Installed new systems and components in vehicles. Used specialty equipment, standard tools, and gauges to complete assessments and repairs. Ordered parts necessary for vehicle repairs and new installations. Troubleshot and diagnosed problems with brakes, steering and transmissions. Performed preventive maintenance on engines, transmissions, tires and other vehicle systems. Documented findings and actions taken.

In my time at mader, I ordered repair parts and ensured requests for parts were executed in a timely manner. Diagnosed and repaired mechanical issues on diesel, natural gas, and propane gensets. Replaced damaged, missing or defective parts with new and refurbished components. Performed diagnostic and troubleshooting procedures to find root causes. Consulted vehicle manuals, technical documentation and repair tree charts for further information. Informed supervisors when machines needed major service.
