Receipt of a “New Colombo Plan Mobility Project Scholarship Recipient 2022”, NCP Borneo Field Course 2023, Funded by the Australian Government, this short-term international field course, to far north-east of Kalimantan, Borneo, was offered to a small, handpicked group of Western Sydney University students as part of Bachelor of Zoology. By participating in this mobility project, I have: Developed my skills in teamwork and collaboration, cultural awareness, sustainability thinking and the importance of protecting and conserving wildlife and rainforests. Designed and completed a research project of the effects on rainforest wildlife caused by deforestation and farming of palm oil plantations. This research has provided me with leadership skills, critical thinking in the experimental design and teamwork in a challenging and remote international setting. I have gained interdisciplinary knowledge on conservation of the primary rainforest in the region through hands-on field activities, formal and informal discussions, and engagement with a local indigenous community. Expanded my understanding of the conservation of wildlife through different perspective, challenged mindset, applied zoolog by working with students and people of different cultural backgrounds.
