Position criteria

I believe every student with a disability is entitled To an education and a safe school environment. Every student with a disability is different; therefore, programs must be varied to meet the student’s needs.

Awareness of the needs of students with disabilities

  • Over the past year of casual and temporary long-term School Learning Support Office I have
  • Had extensive experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities.
  • Demonstrated patience, understanding, a sense of humor and flexibility, an essential quality in this field of work.
  • Gathered information from the teacher/parents and via observations/interactions with the student as to their specific needs in relation to their disability.
  • Demonstrated and awareness of students’ disabilities and the impact this has upon their learning, socialization, and their ability to contribute to the classroom environment.
  • Confidently responded to all students’ needs particularly regarding their personal care, cleanliness, and positive interaction so to optimize their learning experiences.
  • Competently assisted students with their personalized prescribed physiotherapy programs, mealtimes, tube feeding and administering medication when required and attending to the student’s toileting needs.
  • Assisting in the implementation of class programs, activities, and routines to meet students individual learning goals. This include preparing and setting up of student’s physiotherapy equipment, morning teas, art/craft materials, photocopying, laminating resources.

  • Used my knowledge and experience of physical, emotional and intellectual disabilities to identify students learning styles and enabling them to respond and work at the pace suits them. This allows students to enjoy the learning experiences, provide them with consistent and positive feedback and celebrate when they achieve their goals.
