Geraldton, WA - 360 hours (full-time, 8 weeks)

July 2024 - September 2024

  • Worked in a paediatric clinic with a diverse group of neurodiverse children, including those with autism, GDD and ADHD, and their families. Gained valuable experience in creating a supportive environment by applying neuroaffirming practices to enhance the children’s comfort and engagement.
  • Conducted and analysed a range of assessments, including M-ABC3, Beery VMI, Sensory Profile, PEDI-CAT, and Vineland.
  • Collaborated with families and clients to develop goals using the Family Goal Setting Tool, ensuring that goals were aligned with family priorities and supported the child's development and well-being.
  • Completed detailed Functional Capacity Assessment reports to assist with NDIS funding applications and provide clear recommendations for the supports required by each child.

  • I completed my placement on a geriatric medicine ward where my key role as an OT student was discharge planning, implementing falls prevention strategies, pressure injury management and delirium management
  • Implemented evidence-based delirium management strategies to prevent hospital-related delirium and manage symptoms in older adults. Utilised the 4AT for accurate assessment and monitoring of delirium.
  • Adapted communication strategies for older adults with varying cognitive capacities and levels of motivational engagement in OT interventions.
  • Utilised the SCGH prioritisation system to manage patient flow and prioritise care based on urgency and needs.
  • Collaborated effectively with the multidisciplinary team, including Social Workers, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, Nurses, Doctors, Allied Health Assistants, and other Occupational Therapists to coordinate holistic patient care.
  • Performed a range of clinical assessments, including ADL assessments (e.g., showering, toileting, and kitchen tasks), MoCA (Montreal Cognitive Assessment), initial OT assessments, and upper limb range of motion assessments.
  • Liaised with family members and outpatient services to ensure appropriate discharge arrangements. Coordinated with external supports to facilitate smooth transitions and continuity of care, aiming to prevent re-admission.


Hand and Upper Limb - Perth, WA - 240 hours (full-time, 6 weeks)

  • Fabricated custom splints and lycra buddy socks to manage and support a variety of injuries, including simple fractures, ligament and tendon injuries.
  • Performed wound care using aseptic non-touch techniques, and educated patients to prevent infection following surgical interventions.
  • Prescribed and supervised exercises to enhance ROM and strength in affected limbs. Utilised paraffin wax treatments to improve joint mobility and relieve pain.
  • Conducted comprehensive assessments, including the DASH questionnaire, hand strength measures, and ROM evaluations of the upper limb.
  • Engaged with patients to identify and target their occupational goals. Developed and implemented interventions focused on maximising hand function and addressing specific areas of importance to each client.

  • Implemented well-being and exercise programs developed by the OT and physio to enhance residents' mobility and overall well-being.
