Work History

Adult Social Care Occupational Therapist

Essex County Council
07.2019 - 02.2023
  • Company Overview: Goodman House, Harlow, Essex, United Kingdom, CM20 2ET
  • 0345 603 7630
  • I worked full time, Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm
  • I worked closely with carers and families, supporting packages of care, ensuring carers are carrying out safe practices.
  • I dealt with complex moving and handling issues, where i would identify the safest moving and handling equipment or techniques through observations and risk assessments. I would then create a safe moving and handling plan for families and/or carers to follow.
  • I conducted seating assessments in client's homes and aged care facilities. I would take the necessary measurements and assess what pressure care is required, and recommend a bespoke chair to be made.
  • I recommended minor and major housing adaptations and prescribed equipment, to reduce risk of falls and ensure safety within the client's home.
  • I worked with older adults, with a range of mental and physical disabilities.
  • I collaborated with interdisciplinary team members for comprehensive patient care and optimal results.
  • I participated in continuing education opportunities to stay current with industry trends and best practices in occupational therapy.
  • I worked closely with Social Workers to identify the requirements of a package of care. We would determine how many visits a day and what level of support is needed. I would also refer to the Social Workers if i felt a safeguarding issue was present.

Community Occupational Therapist

Worcestershire Health and Care Trust
08.2018 - 06.2019
  • Company Overview: Princess of Wales Community Hospital, Stourbridge Road, Bromsgrove, West Midlands, United Kingdom, B61 0BB
  • 01905 681517
  • I worked full time, Monday to Friday, 8am - 5pm
  • Within my community role, I specialized in housing needs assessments, where I would assess a person's home and recommend minor and major housing adaptations.
  • The major housing adaptations I would recommend were, ramps (modular and permanent ramps), wet rooms, stair lifts, through floor lifts, extensions, door widening, and accessible kitchens.
  • In order to recommend the correct housing adaptations, i would take the necessary measurements to complete the specifications, and draw up the designs. I would take into consideration the client's mental and physical needs, and ensure it is safe and appropriate for them.
  • If major adaptations were not possible within their home, I would complete a housing needs assessment and support the individual to be rehoused to a more suitable property.
  • I worked with a range of clients, adults and older adults, with a range of physical disabilities.

Clinical procedural skills

Through my two jobs as an Occupational Therapist I understand the importance of following the correct procedures, in order to facilitate safe practice. I followed the Occupational Therapy process model, where I would evaluate a person by conducting assessments, in turn, that will initiate which interventions are suitable and beneficial for that person. Once interventions are in place I would reevaluate to ensure their needs are being met and there are positive outcomes e.g. improved quality of life and care. I acknowledge the importance of having clear and factual Occupational Therapy reports, detailing any engagements and communications had.

Gaps in work

I left my previous role as an Occupational Therapist in the United Kingdom, on the 3rd February 2023. The reason I left this job is because I left the United Kingdom to move to Australia to work and travel. When I arrived in Australia I chose to not register with AHPRA straight away, so I could travel Australia. I now want to settle in Australia and continue my career as an Occupational Therapist.
