Measurement, monitoring and analysis of broadacre furrow irrigation systems (especially cotton).
Develop new electronic technology to automate a labour-intensive process of collecting irrigation performance data, realising significant cost savings and facilitating the subsequent development of real-time irrigation analysis and control systems.
Develop new equipment to evaluate performance of irrigation hydraulic structures.
Install and maintain weather stations, TDR sensors, capacitive tensiometers, Bowen Ratio Energy Balance systems, water level sensors, flow measurement sensors, trail cameras, and data logging and communications systems (dataTaker, 4G, Taggle, and LoRa).
Operate and analyse data from EM38 Mk2 ground conductivity meter (quad phase only) in single transects and whole-of-field mapping. Create custom calibration functions to derive soil moisture from EM38 maps.
Design, build and operate high-precision evapotranspiration measurement equipment, including novel BREB system.
Perform soil coring (in crop and during fallow, to 1.5m depth) and analysis of physical properties.
Design and install solar + battery systems to power remote radio receivers and other equipment. (Some of these have been operating reliably for 9+ years.)
Troubleshooting and repairs of electronic instrumentation.
3D design and 3D printing for prototyping, demonstration and field trial purposes.
Work with farmers and researchers in field, laboratory and workshop environments.
Prepared reports, sketches, 2D and 3D design drawings, circuit schematics, and conference presentations.
