Chaplain

  • As a Chaplain for YouthCare I can work with people of many different backgrounds and Abilities for example I work in the school community with both children in mainstream and the education support (where I work with children of varying disabilities)
  • I also partner with both parents and teachers to see the best outcome for the student
  • I work with the Principals and my Area chaplain to see how we can achieve the overall goals for the school
  • I regularly follow up with the principals, deputies, and teachers for referrals and to advise them on what developments are going on with students within confidentiality guidelines
  • One of my primary roles as a chaplain is to engage with the school and the community for the betterment of the school itself
  • This means contacting local businesses and using the contacts I have built within my church community to be advantageous to my current school
  • Though out the term I work with the Principal and my Area chaplain to achieve current goals for the school and if there is a need in the school, we plan together on how we will achieve it
  • I use an online database everyday to log personal information for the students
  • It is also a database where I can access plans and resources to support the school and the students
  • I regularly report back to my principals or Area chaplains via emails, text, phone calls or in person
  • Run small group sessions with students to develop emotional well being and resilience
  • Social and emotional awareness training in one on one student meets
  • The running of lunch activities etc games rooms and tournaments

  • Company Overview: The Ability Centre specializes in supporting people with Cerebral Palsy and other disabilities to reach their personal goals and connect with their local community
  • As an employee with the Ability Centre I work with individual clients with various levels of disability, I support them by assisting them to come up with goals and then connect them with the appropriate organisations
  • This includes but is not limited too organising work experience, community programs and education plans
  • I assist my clients with daily tasks such as personal care, feeding (including peg feeding), communicating, social outreach and mentoring
  • Each day I am required to fill in a daily communications sheet and 'chat books' for each client to ensure that all staff are following the same care plan for our clients
  • I fulfil a hand over duty for each client where I debrief the next staff member on that clients daily activities, personal care, feeding and how their goals are progressing
