• Assisting with medication administration and wound management.
• Monitoring for pressure injuries, followed ANTT, hand hygiene, principles of infection control-including standard precautions.

Acute care clinical placement

• Undertaking a two-patient load, caring for patients with respiratory and gastrointestinal conditions.
• Performing and recording vital observation.
• Assessment, communication, and escalation of any changes in vital signs as shown by an Early Warning Score of greater than 0.

Mental health clinical placement

• Acute closed ward experience with main responsibilities being: performing visual observations at frequency based on patient’s assessed risk level; performing vital observations, mental state examinations (MSE) and risk assessments under supervision of buddy nurse.
• Hospital in-the-home experience with main duties being listening carefully and effectively to patients’ views, and conducting and communicating MSE and risk assessments to preceptors.

Complex care clinical placement

• Frequent vital observations (pre-operative, post-operative, or four-hourly frequency) and fluid management.
• Medication preparation, administration and management.
• Basic ECG interpretation of lethal and complex arrhythmia.
• Fluid management and care of intercostal chest drains.
