Extended working roles

  • Clinical Preceptor:- (1999-2005) Supporting students enrolled in the Paediatric Critical care nursing course. My role required promoting competency in clinical practice by motivating and encouraging students. This involved linking theory to practice, optimising learning opportunities and supervised practice.
  • PICU Bereavement Team member:- (1997-2000) This program was introduced to assist the families of children who had died in PICU. It was felt by both families and the unit that the support received throughout the dying process was beneficial and needed to continue after the child had died.
  • Research Coordinator for the septic shock drug trial:- (2004-2005) Trail of a new drug referred to as Activated protein C. This was a worldwide study that investigated whether this drug was of benefit in the treatment of severe sepsis. My role was that of study coordinator for the WCH.
