Summary

I have worked at the National Accounts Benchmarks (NABS) for three years, and the Producer Price Index (PPI) for one year in the ABS, where I have enjoyed working with the team and built experience across multiple tasks and projects including: Supply-Use (SU)/ Input-Output (IO) analysis using various analytical tools, analysis of international trade travel services in net expenditure overseas (NEO), and Industry-of-Origin Product Classification (IOPC) reviews at the NABS; and analysis of manufacturing of producer price, aggregation and compilation of the price index, and energy price re-weighting at the PPI.

Before the ABS, in my previous role, I had worked as an economic and energy researcher for more than 12 years involving in diverse economic and energy related research and policy analysis. I had used various mathematical methods including time series analysis, statistical/econometric modelling for energy, resources and commodities analysis while developing analytical tools to extract and analyse metadata.

Experienced with data manipulation, statistical analysis, and data visualization. Utilizes advanced analytical techniques to uncover trends and inform policy implication. Track record of employing critical thinking skills to solve complex problems and deliver meaningful insights.

Professional Achievement

Worked independently to implement various new projects by analyzing data, developing methods, investigating the feasibilities to conduct the projects directly under EL1, and collaborating with internal partners in the macroeconomic division.

Wrote R scripts to extract weekly historical supermarket scanner data from scratch, mapped it with the Household Expenditure Classification (HEC) and IOPCs, and analysed and visualised the time series data, estimated the sales quantities, current price values and GST amounts for margin volume analysis.

Wrote clearance reports for the SU tables and the PPI, and drafted documents for the IO and the PPI publications., Conducted SU deflator analysis to estimate Gross Value Added (GVA) volumes for each product in IOPCs while mapping price indices with IOPCs and investigating the price levels.

Presented the progress of IOPC reviews and employment data at the IO user group meeting (external), the progress of IO employment data for the NABS, and expectations and clearance meetings at the PPI (Internal).

Supervised staff and assisted the NABS and the PPI team members to complete tasks and deliver quality of outputs on time, and provided them performance feedback.

Led research projects to identify global environmental economic issues and solutions by applying various economic and environmental methodologies including integrating triple bottom line (environmental, social and economic) analysis, time series regression analysis and supply chain life-cycle analysis.

Programmed codes and built excel calculation spreadsheet to develop analytical tools for economic analysis using excel, Matlab, Python and R languages and linking it to a large database stored in a supercomputer.

Supervised a small research team from funding to delivering outputs and policy interpretation.
