Tayla is a queer stage and voice actor born and raised in Brisbane, Australia. She is a dynamic performer with a deep love for trying new things and exploring complex topics. With a background in vocal performance Tayla aims to push the boundaries of how emotions are expressed through the voice in combination for her love of movement.
I planned and produced this short film across two months for one of my university courses. In addition to producing I also a minor role, worked as lighting crew and wrote some of the lyrics to the song that accompanied the visuals.
I was fortunate to play the lead (Orchid) in this original musical was written by John Wikman during the pandemic. This show offered themes of overcoming discrimination, friendship, and the power of thinking outside the box. This was my first time playing a lead in a musical so the learning curve was steep but deeply enjoyable.
Through my many years in the performance levels of the Australian Girls Choir I had the opportunity to perform in 50+ public performances across those 4-ish years. These performances consisted of anything from carolling at shopping centres across Brisbane to the Olympic Welcome Home Dinner (2021), the Queensland Tourism Awards (2021), the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (2022), the Cricket Test Games Series (2022-23) and many Citizenship Ceremonies at King George Square.
In this musical I had the opportunity to bring to life Ms Darbus, the eccentric drama teacher. She was definitely the biggest most dramatic character I have ever played. She is the embodiment of 'go big or go home' and taking her character taught me a lot about just 'going for it'
