I have become well established in Australia having moving out of my parents' home in New Zealand. Since being here I have acquired my open car license, Heavy Rigid license condition b, my white card and a reliable mode of transport.   • Working as a team was crucial within this job role to ensure that we worked to maximum efficiency and effectiveness
  • We also lived together for the period of time we were on the boat - through this I gained excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork skills
  • Our shifts were generally 18 hours on, 6 hours off
  • This was my first opportunity of independence, I was responsible for cooking my own meals and tending to my washing
  • A proud achievement of mine while in this job role is after two trips I was promoted to a B grade sailor
  • (A/B/C Grade, C Grade is considered trainee.) This meant not only greater wage but more opportunity for growth and responsibility within the workplace
  • I thoroughly enjoyed this job and the independence it gave me - It gave me insight into my inner strengths and abilities, helping me grow into adulthood
