Oyster Husbandry & Handling
- Grade, sort, and size oysters to promote consistent growth.
- Handle oysters at different growth stages.
- Remove dead or damaged stock to maintain high quality.
- Assist in managing stocking densities.
- Carry out daily farm tasks such as flipping, tumbling, and cleaning baskets/trays.
- Set up and maintain oyster infrastructure (longlines, racks, baskets).
- Assist with deployment and retrieval of gear.
- Perform basic maintenance on equipment.
- Operate and skipper vessels for daily farm operations, transport, and on-water activities.
- Conduct safe navigation and handling of vessels in intertidal and open water environments.
- Load and unload oysters, equipment, and supplies efficiently and safely.
- Work across intertidal and open water leases in varying weather and tidal conditions.
- Harvest oysters in line with farm schedules and production requirements.
- Grade oysters by size and quality, including separating dead and undersized stock.
- Sort and batch oysters appropriately to support downstream processing and market requirements.
- Maintain stock quality through careful handling and adherence to farm standards.
- Follow all safety procedures and use PPE correctly.
- Identify hazards and report risks or incidents
- Work safely around machinery, boats, and marine conditions.
