Teri Hayes

Residential Care Worker

Summary

I am an organized and dependable candidate for the role of Housing Support Officer. In my current employment I have proved to be consistent in managing multiple priorities with a positive attitude. I have a willingness to take on added responsibilities to meet team goals. I wish to embark on a new career path that offers professional challenges utilizing interpersonal skills, excellent time management and problem-solving skills.

I regularly work with young people in crisis situations and provide them, and those affected directly by their behaviours with a strong, confident and supportive service

As level three in residential care I effectively run the shifts that I am rostered, managing four to five young people and the level two on shift. Running the shift requires prioritising of workloads, monitoring of environment, support of staff and young people, mentoring and being prepared for any crisis that may occur.

I work closely with Aboriginal Practice Leaders to provide holistic cultural support to Indigenous young people whether residing on or off country. I have provided strong advocacy for both Indegenous and African young people in our facility. I am also the proud mother of three Ethiopian born children (now adults) and as such am acutely aware of cultural differences that exist in society.

I have strong written and verbal communication skills developed throughout my working career and am keenly aware of the need to be objective and concise in my communications and to provide the required level of confidentiality required by departmental requirements.

As the role I am seeking is in a different field to my current experience I am enthusiastic to learn and develop my practice to become a proficient, supportive leader within the organisation as I have done in my current role.

In summary I have spent 16 years in frontline crisis intervention within the Department of Communities and I believe through this experience I have become a detail-oriented team player with strong organizational skills. I highly capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously with a high degree of empathy, professionalism and accuracy.
