Tharushi Perera

1st Rotation- Neurosciences ward (neurology, stroke and neurosurgery)

• Conduct neurological assessments and escalation of medical care appropriately.
• Pre and post management of neurosurgical patients including complex pain management (Use of ketamine and PCA infusion pumps).
• Safe administration of medications including antiepileptics, thrombolytic and other time-critical medications under strict organization protocols.

2nd Rotation- Day treatment/surgery centre

• Pre-operative preparation and post-operative management of day surgeries and procedures
• Management of Emergency department outflow patients
• Infusion management including blood, blood products (IVIG) and immunotherapy agents

• Liaise with family members, general practitioners and allied health professionals for the ongoing care care of the residents.
• Wound management

Gynaecology and Obstetrics ward

• Monitoring of fetal heart rate, maternal vitals signs and contractions.
• Prepare for assist with vaginal childbirths, c-sections and emergency procedures.

Operating Room

• Act as a liaison between the sterile surgical team and the external environment.
• Document all intraoperative events, including medications given and surgical counts.
• Assess airway, breathing, and circulation upon arrival from the OR.
• Monitor immediate post anaesthetic complications after surgery
