Accomplished General Practitioner with 30 years of experience in all aspects of general practice consulting, clinical skills and practice management. Special interest in managing chronic and complex conditions. Known for providing high quality, personalised care, genuine concern, building a loyal patient base and fostering excellent relationships with other healthcare professionals. Committed to delivering exceptional, evidence-based, up to date, compassionate continuous care, patient advocacy and high standards.
From January 1997 to May 2006 I worked as an employee at the Greenwich Village Medical Practice. I was employed by Dr Raema Prowse as an assistant General Practitioner. I began working part-time, 4 months after the birth of my first child . This was really sooner than I had wanted to return to work but Dr Prowse was very keen for me to start working there. I gradually increased my hours over the years and built up a substantial and loyal patient following and practised all all aspects of General Practice "cradle to grave"medicine. In 2006, I purchased the medical practice and practice building from Dr Prowse. For the next 17 years I worked extremely long hours seeing patients and managing all aspects of running a small, quality-focussed, community General Practice. I came to know my patients extremely well and developed a special interest in managing chronic and complex care, receiving many referrals from Specialists at surrounding hospitals, Royal North Shore Hospital, North Shore Private Hospital and The Mater Hospital, North Sydney. I liased closely with Greenwich Hospital (Hammond Care) which specialises in Palliative Care, Geriatric Mental Health Care and Rehabilitation. I also had VMO rights at Longueville Private Hospital and visited local nursing homes and in particular, Glenwood Nursing Home, Greenwich. Very close to the practice was a retirement village and local school. I had good working relations with 4 successive owners of the Greenwich Village Pharmacy. Over the years, I developed a very loyal patient base, many of whom remain patients to this day. In 2023, finding it too difficult to manage running a General Practice and see my patients I decided to sell the practice to the St Leonards Family Medical Centre, where I now work full time.
All aspects of General Practice
Having just returned from living in the United Kingdom for a number of years I returned to working in Accident and Emergency Departments in country NSW and ACT as a Career Medical Officer. I worked at Nowra Base Hospital, Goulburn Base Hospital and Calvary Hospital Canberra. These hospitals were quite small at the time and I would usually be the only doctor in the department, managing whoever presented to the Emergency department, along with nursing staff. The roles were very demanding and very busy. It was also a steep learning curve dealing with many serious emergencies- motor vehicle accidents, cardiac arrests, domestic violence, sexual assaults, mental health issues, gunshot wounds etc as well as less dramatic presentations. I developed excellent relationship with other staff and local Medical Specialists.
During my time at Bromley Hospital I worked as a Senior House Office and studied all aspects Geriatrics for 6 months. This also was a very busy hospital and shifts were very long but the experience and knowledge gained has been invaluable in General Practice.
At HKH I worked for 12 months in the Accident and Emergency Department as an A and E Registrar. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working at HKH, had excellent relations with all staff and learned a great deal about Emergency Medicine which I was considering Specialising in.
At Southlands Hospital I worked as a Senior House Officer, studying Paediatrics for 6 months. This was an excellent experience, increasing my knowledge of Paediatric health care greatly. Southlands was a busy hospital and shifts were long. All aspects of paediatric patient care was covered.
Hospital Residency year.
Rotated through terms in Emergency, Cardiothoracic Surgery,Paediatrics and Gynaecology gaining experience and knowledge. I was well regarded by my Registrars and Specialists, many of whom I am still in touch with today.
