• Duties include but are not limited to:
• Measuring and Monitoring patient vital signs and neurovascular obs pre op and post op
• Recognising the signs of a deteriorating patients and making the appropriate call to code as per hospital policies
• Working with the Medical Emergency Response (MER) team in the case of a code blue
• Working with the allied health team such as physiotherapist to ensure a speedy rehabilitation for our patients
• Educating patients on their specific orthopaedic surgery
• Monitoring wounds for any signs of infection and maintaining good hygiene of wounds by using aseptic technique to change dressings when indicated
• Starting and monitoring IV therapy, blood transfusions and administering IV antibiotics via IV cannulas and PICC lines
• Monitoring output of VeriVac drains and removal of VeriVac drains
• Monitoring urine output post major surgery
• Monitoring and controlling patient pain levels to help with quick rehabilitation
• Assist with patient hygiene
• Assist with activities of daily living
• Documentation of patient progress notes
• Development of care plans in accordance to individual requirements
• Complete any documentation as required
• Liaising with patient’s family
• Working within my scope of practice and in accordance with SJOGM policies and procedures
• Using the five rights of medication administration when completing medication rounds
• Practice good hand hygiene.

• Measuring and Monitoring patient vital signs

• Working with the doctors to ensure appropriate level of care is given

• Using the five rights of medication administration when completing medication rounds
• Practice good hand hygiene
• Ensuring availability for shifts that need to be filled.

• Measuring and Monitoring patient vital signs
• Working with the registered nurse in caring for patients in the emergency department
• Working with the doctors through ETS (Emergency TeleHealth) in order to make quick, safe decisions in emergencies to ensure the best possible outcome for our patients
• Taking routine bloods from residents and sending them off to pathology for results
• Liaising with the local doctor about patients and resident’s current health status
• Assist with patient and resident hygiene
• Assist with activities of daily living
• Documentation of patient progress notes
• Development of care plans in accordance to individual requirements
• Complete any documentation as required
• Liaising with patient’s family
• Working within my scope of practice and in accordance with WACHS policies and procedures
• Implementing different strategies in falls prevention such as the Traffic Light System
• Using the five rights of medication administration when completing medication rounds
• Practice good hand hygiene.
