As an international graduate from the UK I have now worked as a plastic surgery registrar at Barwon Health and I am looking to further my knowledge and skills. I worked as the plastic surgery registrar alongside the SET registrar, and two fellow unaccredited registrars. In this role I exercised responsibilities useful for further positions in plastics inclusive of:

  • Seeing and independently managing patients in clinics, and escalating those with more complex management to consultants.
  • Organizing and participating in acute trauma theatre lists - prioritizing time critical injuries and facilitating logistics to maximize efficiency.
  • Assessing and acutely managing patients as the on-call registrar in an acute (ED, ward) and subacute (community) setting.
  • Assist in additional responsibilities as they arise such as presenting at skin cancer multi-disciplinary meetings and intradepartmental teaching.
  • Practiced lucid and effective communication skills between team members, surgical staff, ward staff, and patients in a variety of different contexts.

I worked as a plastic surgery resident at Sunshine hospital for two terms. As a resident who's stay spanned two rotations I was responsible for:

  • Facilitating ward round of 10-20 acute inpatients and executing plans between myself and other residents
  • I was responsible for the holistic care of inpatients and communicating between other healthcare and allied health teams
  • Helping to facilitate flow in theatre and manage problems that arise in DOSA, preadmission
  • Seeing patients in clinic and working with the registrars to create a management plan
  • Familiarizing myself with typical plastic surgery presentations in both acute and non-acute settings
  • Facilitate transition of new residents onto rotation to ensure smooth transition
  • Assisted in quality improvement by populating weekly audit

  • Worked as an education team member who planned and organized education events for the local students. This involved participation of events with upwards of 100 students to encourage a career in medication and showcase various clinical skills inclusive of laparoscopic, robotic, and colonoscopy.
