Rotation 1: Cardiothoracic & Respiratory (6 months)

• Delivered nursing care to post-operative cardiothoracic patients including CABG and valve surgery
• Performed comprehensive cardiovascular assessments and monitored telemetry, escalating deterioration appropriately
• Independently managed chest drains, including assessment, troubleshooting, and removal in line with unit policy
• Removed temporary pacing wires following competency sign-off and medical orders
• Administered IV and oral medications including anticoagulation therapy
• Provided patient and whānau education to support recovery and discharge planning

Rotation 2: General Medicine (6 months)

• Delivered comprehensive nursing care to patients with complex medical conditions including respiratory, cardiac, renal, and infectious presentations
• Managed a full patient allocation, prioritising care in a busy acute medical environment
• Completed admission assessments, ongoing monitoring, and timely documentation
• Administered oral, subcutaneous, and IV medications in accordance with medication safety policies
• Recognised and escalated clinical deterioration using early warning scores and clinical judgement
• Coordinated multidisciplinary care and supported discharge planning and patient education

• Appointed to permanent Registered Nurse position on Ward 8 East, General Medicine commencing January 2026

• Assisting nursing staff with patient mobilisation, transfers, hygiene, and toileting.
• Restocking and sterilisation of medical equipment.
• Enabling patient comfort and providing emotional support.
• Assisting nursing and medical staff with procedures e.g. removal of chest drains, angiogram pre-procedure checklists and assisting with medical emergencies.
