Hello! My name is Tong Wu (Owen). I am currently studying in The University of Sydney (Bachelor of Education Early childhood). My WWCC number is WWC2681924E and I have done the first aid and CPR training with the certificate. I like working with children and have passion in the Early Childhood education industry.
In my eyes, an quality educator should have passion and love in working with children, respect their rights and identities. Realizing that each children is different and apply different strategies to support them. Our responsibility is to create environment that is inclusive of children's identities to support children's rights through play-based experience, helping them developing skills and values in preparation for the future. Also planing meaningful and interesting activities to promote children's autonomy and social interaction.
As teachers, we are not teaching children to fit into the social structure, we encourage them to thinking about of the box and came up with their ideas about the world, questioning question about fairness and social justice. And we confront the problem together and practice problem-solving abilities related to the issue they are facing.
Also I summarized my own strategies to interact and form close relationships with children:
First, I need to have a good affinity, it makes children feel that I really like them and welling to interact with me.
Second, I need to pay attention to and acknowledge children' reality since they came from diverse background and having different experiences. This point relates respect children's right and identity
Last but not the least, Communication skills is crucial for educator's interaction with children that can create a context for children to promote their social interaction. For example, educators can use questions to extend the conversation with children to facilitate their verbal thought. Also, According to Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development Theory, Children's language develop with the help of adults by expanding their meanings during the conversation.
All of these points above make it possible for me to understand a child's situation and helping me building up trustful relationships with children through applying the right strategy to support them.
