Job overview

  • Key highlights include the custom design, install and commissioning of an automated lid placing machine for Village Yoghurt. The client was having issues with the taper-evident seal breaking along with inconsistent productivity rates. Lid placing machine was designed to integrate and complement the existing yoghurt filling machine infrastructure and operate autonomously for all bucket varieties. PLC was upgraded and reprogrammed to accommodate increased manufacturing speeds. The upgrade increased productivity, significantly reduced product write-offs and reduced labour from 5 operators to 1. The project was delivered on time and on budget.
  • Full time engineering project and maintenance contract with one of Australia's leading FMCG food manufacturing plants. Responsible for maintaining and improving the autonomous manufacturing process. The site employs approximately 140 people, hence the requirement for strong people skills.
  • An engineering consultancy firm which provides technical support, strategic insight and issue resolution to manufacturing businesses. Services include technical support, P&L management, manufacturing efficiency and technical training. Expertise in engineering design/manufacture and project management, offering a wide range of consulting and advisory services. We encompass the full lifecycle, from design to implementation.

  • Employed as a project engineer for the Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) project based in Abu Dhabi. I was part of a team creating project package documents to client's specification for tender to global companies.
  • Ultimately responsible for the interviewing and decision making on the most suitable technology. Contractual procurement documents were created for successful tender meticulously defining scope of work, regulations standards and codes, functional description, design requirements, fabrication and installations requirements, inspections assembly and testing and preparation for shipment. Ultimately delivering a project from tender to implementation.
  • Also involved in the onsite install stage of this project in Abu Dhabi.

  • Focusing on new packaging development for various FMCG categories such as fresh meat, dairy, pasta and dry goods. A packaging design expert in thin-wall pressure forming. Lead a team of 10, delivering innovative solutions and technical best practice.
  • Key highlights include the design and manufacture of an aseptic direct food contact blister for the airline industry. The project involved complete product design and manufacture along with assisting in installation of sealing machines capable of autonomous high speed hermetic sealing. Project required close liaising with offshore manufacturers to ensure all designs were to specification. The high-speed packaging process required stringent control on all parameters and a product which could be reproduced with precise dimensional stability. Formpac provided 1.5 million blisters per month.
  • Another packaging design initiative was the design and introduction of the first peal able strawberry punnet for Coles. The design incorporated air flow characteristics to promote rapid cooling of the berry and shelf stability. It also prevented product tempering. This project was a joint initiative between Amcor, Coles, Formpac and the farmers reduce under weight punnets and berry freshness. The punnet design in conjunction with the speciality lidding film provided a tamper proof system which promoted berry freshness.
  • Kept my clients up to date with industry insights and packaging trends by attending International Expos on Plastics and Rubber such as Chinaplas. Integrated global best practice into my business to weave an innovative mindset into the fabric of our culture.

  • As a graduate, I commenced my engineering career at Blue Circle Southern Cement as a contractor for a major shutdown. I was involved in confined space and contractor supervision through E. Brockman and Sons Engineering.
  • Involved in problem solving, installation and commissioning activities. Role encompassed numerous responsibilities from project management to business development. Heavily focusing on water conservation, I was able to enhance Hatch's water engineering and consulting services, involving Hatch associates from interstate. I created a Melbourne and Geelong based water consulting group utilising the Hatch network of professionals.
  • Some projects include: Identified potential improvement and cost saving projects, which involved reducing the water content of a filter cake via improved technology, hence reducing disposal costs and landfill by 45%. Demineralised Water project. The intention of this project was to replace an existing Ion Exchange plant, which had reached its design life with a modern more efficient one, such as a high recovery Reverse Osmosis plant. DC2 capacity upgrade project. Scoped up the work and produced documentation detailing the intended scope. Pt Henry Water/Oil separation project. This project is similar to the aforementioned filter cake project in that its drive was in reducing disposal costs by removing water. Pt Henry water efficiency and conservation project. Conducted a plant audit to account for 96% of Alcoa's water use. Created a document containing possible solutions to decrease water use onsite.

  • Undertook various roles as a shift team leader and shift operator. Also involved in OH&S projects such as a Western Port plant wide audit to eliminate/reduce the chances injury.
  • Projects undertaken whilst at BlueScope Steel include: BlueScope Steel, Western Port. Project leader for the water recirculation project including project design and feasibility study. BlueScope Steel Pickle Line (PKL). Acid tank upgrade line speed model adjustment. Enabled smoother more efficient product flow through the PKL. Pickling characteristics improved leading to decreased acid consumption. BlueScope Steel Acid Regeneration Plant (ARP). Reactor burner tunnels iron build up decreased and understood. Involved in pre project trials and post project implementations.
