Tingyi (Tony) Yang

Tony Yang is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (Class of 2024). He spent the past three months in New York and has been accepted to several institutions in NYC.

Over the years, he has dedicated himself to learning the jazz repertoire and performing gigs in Melbourne. Tony has been a member of the Melbourne Youth Jazz Orchestra since 2023. He also performed in the VCASS Outstanding Soloist Competition, earning second place. Additionally, he was featured as a solo artist with the Daryl Mackenzie Jazz Orchestra. He was recently selected to perform in Mount Gambier as a finalist of the James Morrison Scholarship.

He has studied with renowned Melbourne jazz guitarist James Sherlock for many years and has also studied under New York jazz guitarist Mike Moreno, who currently teaches at the Manhattan School of Music. In addition, he has studied with other Melbourne jazz greats, including saxophonist Tony Hicks and jazz pianist Mark Fitzgibbon.
