Education and Nursery Coordinator and Trainee Supervisor with a Landcare organisation and former National Park Ranger with a trade background as a Cabinetmaker. Extensive outdoors experience and knowledge of local natural areas.
Plan and deliver Barung’s education and community engagement programs in collaboration with the Landcare and Partnerships Manager and the Administration Coordinator.
Lead day-to-day community nursery operations, including plant care, stock presentation, procurement, and customer service.
Coordinate and deliver nursery and education events, including major community events.
Manage budgets effectively and ensure financial accountability for the Maleny nursery. Monitor and maintain nursery infrastructure, including water and nursery and garden grounds.
Induct, supervise, and support nursery and education volunteers, ensuring safe and rewarding experiences. Provide hands-on training in native plant propagation, seedling tubing, and
restoration practices. Foster an inclusive and supportive volunteer culture aligned with Barung’s values.
Take responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe environment for staff, volunteers, visitors, and members of the public. Complete all required WHS documentation, incident reports, and risk assessments in line with organisational policies. Ensure WHS practices are embedded in education activities, nursery operations, and volunteer supervision.
I also supervise our Certificate I trainees part time, working on a range of skills with them from bush regeneration and revegetation to nursery skills as well as plant identification and local ecology.
Worked as part of a team responsible for ensuring all park infrastructure, including backcountry huts and tracks, were maintained to a high standard consistent with guidelines set out by the Department of Conservation.
Worked to manage weather events to ensure that all park users were as safe as possible as well as providing advice and logistical information to those recreating in the park.
Also carried out some work with the biodiversity team in setting up equipment for the control of invasive species as well as monitoring outcomes.
