An enthusiastic young person with a Certificate II in Engineering Studies recently completed. Looking for an apprenticeship in fabrication. Committed to working hard, whilst building practical skills.
• Pollinating cacti, mixing potting mix and repotting cacti. Packaging cacti and driving to the post office to mail cacti to customers.
Key responsibilities
· Before repotting, I had to mix the potting mix, to the right specifications. This involved using a large scoop to gather the right amount of fertiliser, to combine with the dirt. I would then toss the dirt by hand, to incorporate the fertilizer. Then I would repot each plant.
· When packing cacti, I made sure to place their most fragile sides towards the corners of each box. This is where the box is sturdiest. This made sure that if the box were to be dropped in delivery, the most fragile parts of each cactus would be protected.
· When pollinating cacti, I had to learn the specific method for pollinating. I was responsible for distributing pollen between the right types of cacti to ensure that the most desirable characteristics, from each cactus, would be present in the seedlings.
Achievements
· Accurately mixed potting mix for repotting cacti.
· Diligently packaged multiple cacti, in a way where they could be shipped across Australia and the world without being damaged in transit.
· Successfully pollinated cacti that yielded seed.
Key Achievements
· I performed basic MMAW fillet welds and a GMAW butt weld. I had to refer to the engineering drawings to ensure that my pieces met the specifications. When gathering a jacket and gloves, I tested the auto darkening feature on a helmet with a spark lighter, before welding, to ensure my safety.
· Before thermal cutting, I gathered the appropriate tools, like a roller guide, in order to make straight cuts on the work piece. When marking out the piece with chalk, I took into account my cutting allowances in order to meet the drawings specifications and tolerances.
· When machining a hammer’s head, I first had to fit the chuck. I used a chuck key to tighten the chuck to the headstock. It was my responsibility to ensure the chuck was properly secure in order to maintain the safety of myself and everyone else.
