The Registered Nurse (RN) in Aged Care is responsible for delivering high-quality, person-centered care to elderly residents. The RN oversees clinical care, ensures compliance with healthcare standards, supervises care staff, and supports residents' physical, emotional, and social well-being in alignment with individual care plans and aged care regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to residents, including medication administration, wound care, and clinical assessments.
• Monitor and evaluate residents’ health conditions and report any changes to the physician or care team.
• Develop, implement, and regularly review individualised care plans in consultation with residents, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Supervise and mentor care workers (e.g., AINs, ENs), ensuring they follow clinical procedures and best practices.
• Maintain accurate documentation and clinical records in accordance with legislative and organisational standards.
• Liaise with doctors, allied health professionals, families, and external service providers to ensure holistic care.
• Promote and uphold a safe environment for residents and staff by adhering to infection control, WHS, and risk management protocols.
• Respond effectively to medical emergencies and incidents.
• Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and accreditation processes.
• Provide end-of-life and palliative care with sensitivity and respect.

• Prepared patient for surgery, obtaining consent, education of perioprative and post operative patient.
• Ensuring confidential patient environment and direct patient care as ordered by physician.
• Improved patient satisfaction by addressing concerns, answering questions, and offering support before and after surgery.
• Provided post-operative patient support, education, medications administration for pain and assisted in recovery and discharge process.
• Conducted thorough patient assessments to identify changes in condition, promptly notifying physicians and initiating appropriate interventions when necessary
• Administered medications safely according to established guidelines while closely monitoring for side effects or adverse reactions requiring intervention.

• Undertaking pre-vaccination assessments and reviewing clinical histories to ensure individuals are eligible for vaccination
• Confirming consent prior to vaccinations
• Communicating clearly with patients to address any questions or concerns regarding the vaccine and potential adverse reactions
• Ensuring guidelines regarding PPE, clinical and non-clinical waste and sanitisation are respected and upheld at all times
• Maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality
• Entering data into the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR)
